Fall 2012 Trend: Leather

Wednesday, August 8, 2012

Gucci, Lanvin, Calvin Klein Collection, and Balmain all showed luxurious leather looks on the Fall RTW runway shows. This isn't the hard punk rock kind of leather either it is sophisticated and clean. These looks use leather for a new take on the pencil skirt, using clean lines for dresses, preppy pleated skirts, and high-neck lines. A more mature look for leather.

So much leather that it reminds me of Project Runway Season 5 contestant, Stella and her "leatha". I bet she is thrilled about this trend. Remember her?

If you are against wearing real leather or against the high cost than a great alternative is "coated" or "liquid" leather.

Although I would only stick to purchasing a "coated" leather style in pants, jeans, shorts, and simple line skirts. Finding a "coated" leather jacket that didn't look cheap would be difficult but of course I wouldn't rule it out.

I recently found a great pair of "coated" leather black jean Guess shorts at a Marshall's for $24.00. I will wear them now with a button down loose top whether it is a solid color or a flowery print. Then in the fall or when it finally gets cold I will pair them with black opaque tights, booties or boots, a conservative or feminine blouse and a sharp black blazer.
